These are the Richest Pakistani Billionaires in the National Assembly

A list of the richest Pakistanis making laws of the land.

As Pakistani politicians declare their assets for the elections in Gilgit-Baltistan, turns out we’ve got one too many billionaires. About 12 out of 342 members of the National Assembly have declared assets worth over a billion rupees, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The ECP released a statement of assets held by MNAs for the year 2019, revealing that 12 MNAs are billionaires. Their accumulated wealth includes huge pieces of land, precious properties, and massive investments in stocks, shares and industrial units, and agriculture. These MNAs are:

  • Ihsan Bajwa (PML-N) – Rs 4 bn +
  • Noor Alam Khan (PTI) – Rs 3.20 bn
  • Chaudhry Salik Hussain (PML-Q) – Rs. 1.60 bn
  • Bilawal Bhutto Zardari (PPP) – Rs 1.58 bn
  • Najib Haroon (PTI) – Rs.1.54 bn

Seven of these 12 MNAs are part of the government coalition and only three from Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N). Five of these wealthy MNAs are from Punjab, five from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and two from Sindh. This list also includes:

  • Moonis Elahi from Gujrat (PML-Q)
  • Mohammad Yaqoob Sheikh from Dera Ismail Khan (PTI),
  • Amir Haider Azam Khan Hoti from Mardan(ANP),
  • Noorul Hasan Tanveer from Bahawalnagar (PML-N)
  • Minister for Power Omar Ayub from Haripur (PTI)

On the other hand, Imran Khan, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, and Khayal Zaman Orakzai have been knocked out of the billionaires club. The Prime Minister’s net worth is estimated at over Rs80 million, excluding his 300-kanal villa in Banigala that he says was a gift.

This also excludes his house in Lahore’s Zaman Park, around 600 acres (4,800 kanals) of agricultural land as well as non-agricultural land, that he says he inherited. The figure also excludes two properties around 15 acres in Bhakkar, which he had listed in his asset declaration last year.
