This Mosque is Made Entirely Out of Plastic Crates [Pictures]

Impressive and beautiful!

eco-mosque

Indonesia has created Asia’s first eco-friendly mosque, which only uses plastic crates. The entire mosque is built with them.

Plastic waste makes up a large quantity of unrecycled waste that ends up in landfills, water bodies, and other places that prove to be harmful to our ecosystem. We better take notes on innovative solutions to reduce and re-use plastic. This Indonesian mosque is one such idea taken to its logical end.

Kotakrat Pavilion – the world’s first eco-friendly mosque

Rather than cause more pollution with plastic waste, Kotakrat Pavilion in Indonesia re-used old plastic crates to build an entire mosque and reduce waste. Plastic is not bio-degradable, which is why it causes pollution. Since it’s not biodegradable, that makes it an unconventional raw material for construction purposes.

Al Jazeera shared this unique structure with the world, which is supported by metal pillars within its plastic crate walls. This eco-mosque is no small building either, it’s about 440 square feet.

Besides using it as a standard mosque, the building has a ‘Space of Kindness’ for people fo just relax and chill out.

It is unclear if this eco-mosque is powered by renewable energy or whether it has a mechanism in place for water conservation. One can assume its owners are doing something about this.

The whole thing looks like a house of cards at first, but apparently it is sturdy enough for its intended purpose. Thes pictures give us a good view of its interior and exterior sides.

Like Malaysia, Indonesia also plans to go plastic-free. The Pan-Pacific island nation’s goal is to be plastic-free by 2024. The Indonesian Ulema Council has been pushing for eco-mosques as far back as 2017.

Back in 2017, Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla announced an initiative to establish 1,000 eco-mosques by 2020.

Previously in late 2019, Europe’s first eco-mosque, Cambridge Central Mosque was opened in Britain. The project was donor-funded and took 10 years to complete. The structure is completely wooden, with rain-water harvesting, solar panels, and state-of-the-art heating and cooling technology.

All of this is fine and dandy, and now we just want to see something like this in Pakistan. Any takers?
