Advocate Waqas Anwar Gujjar has filed a petition to ban TikTok permanently. According to reports, other social media apps like Bigo Live and Likee were also mentioned. The petitioner believes such apps expose the youth to vulgarity and obscenity.

Lahore High Court allowed the plea- to ban three social media apps- for hearing, as reported by The News on Wednesday. Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh heard the objection case and directed the Registrar’s Office to fix it before a bench for hearing.

Waqas presented the case and mentioned that such social media apps are a waste of time. Further explaining that these apps are “spreading vulgarity in the society”. He also mentioned that because Pakistan is a Muslim state, it should ban apps that spread obscenity and vulgarity.

Advocate Waqas Anwar Gujjar also mentioned that he submitted a similar application to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). However, it paid no heed to his request. Now, he is seeking the help of LHC to get the apps permanently banned.

Last year, TikTok and Bigo were banned by PTA. But after the video-sharing app ensured that indecent content would be blocked in the country, the ban was lifted.

The social media app, TikTok, remains to be a topic of discussion on several platforms. While some are opposed to the use of these apps, others are of the idea that they are harmless. What do you have to say about this? Share your views in the comments section.
