The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have arrested two men from Charsadda who were planning to sell a teenage girl to an elderly man from Muzaffargarh district of Punjab.

The plan was successfully thwarted after Mukhtiar Ali Khan – the uncle of 14-year-old Rumaisa – approached the Parmuli police as soon as he came to know that his brother Bakhtiar Ali Khan had sold her daughter to an elderly man, Ghulam Haider, for money.

The police reached the scene in time and thwarted the heinous plan, Inspector Liaqat Shah of Parmuli police station said.

Arrests Made

He said the main culprit Tariq Saeed, who hails from Harichand area of Charsadda was also arrested. He had fabricated the plan to sell the girl to the Muzaffargarh man.

The police official said they arrested Saeed and Haider’s brother, Sadiq when they were on their way to Purmuli to finalize the arrangements for taking the girl to Muzaffargarh.

A case has been registered against the four people under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Inspector Liaqat said the father of the girl and some other culprits involved in the bargain are on the run, but will be arrested soon.

He said the KP police is in contact with Muzaffargarh police for Haider’s arrest.

Meanwhile, sources say that Saeed has allegedly been involved in the practice of selling children for years, but the connection between him and Rumaisa’s father was unclear as of yet.

However, the sources said some locals were also involved in the bargain.

They said the girl’s father had sold Rumaisa for Rs. 2,20,000 and the cash was given to Saeed by Haidar’s brother.

The young girl, on the other hand, was lured into the bargain with dreams of a luxurious life in return for marrying the old man. Needless to say, she hadn’t given her consent.
