The Screenwriters Association of Pakistan has been formed in order to safeguard the rights of writers. The association will represent professional screenwriters in the entertainment industry and aims to work in collaboration with channels, productions and organizations.

The executive committee members of the Screenwriters Association of Pakistan were revealed yesterday. Vasay Chaudhry will serve as the President while Umera Ahmed will serve as the Vice President. Sajjad Gul, popularly known as Saji Gul, will serve as the General Secretary and Asma Nabeel will take on the role of Joint Secretary.

Finances will be overlooked by Inaam Hassan whereas Rida Bilal will be the spokesperson for the executive committee. To add to the incredible list of screenwriters, Zafar Meraj, Amna Mufti, Syed Mohammad Ahmed, and Bee Gul are also onboard on an advisory level.

The Memorandum of Association available at the website states that it will provide a safe space for writers where they can come together to discuss and resolve problems they face in their professional careers.

Moreover, they hope to advocate the rights of screenwriters as professionals in their field which will include getting them their due respect and credit for their creative work. The association will also ensure that writers also get the benefit of royalties for the re-runs of their dramas or movies on TV channels or streaming sites.
