While we often hear stories of women suffering at the hands of online predators, via revenge porn or fake indecent visuals, turns out Pakistani men suffer the same plight. An Assistant Director (AD) of the Federal Investigation Agency’s Cyber Crime Wing revealed how many men became victims, as ‘foreign women’ trap them for money on social media.

According to FIA Cyber Crime Wing AD, Asif Iqbal Chaudhry foreign women trap Pakistani men by acquiring illicit indecent photographs and videos of them. These indecent visuals are then used to blackmail the men.

“You come to know they had picked up your friends list. Through this they know details of your brother, sister, details of your friends and family, which they use to blackmail you,”

These blackmailers spend time building a perverse relationship with their targets. They then persuade these Pakistani men to perform sexual acts in front of their webcam.

With attractive foreign women on the other end, these men fall for the honey trap. The victims are then blackmailed using the recorded explicit videos or webcam footage.

These Pakistani men are faced with the choice of paying up or being exposed to their friends and family. The victim is made to feel extremely ashamed and embarrassed and, tragically, even take their own lives after being targeted.

‘Foreign Women’ Trap Pakistani Men

AD Asif Iqbal Chaudhry revealed that these honey trapping online accounts are apparently run by foreigners or fake accounts of women. It is unclear if all these accounts are actually run by foreign women. It is not at all uncommon for Pakistani men to pose as females online to scam people.

He warned that we are not beyond the reach of online predators simply because they are situated across the world. Cyberspace is an open ground for facile ‘friendships’. People often sideline social norms they abide by in real life, as cyber-bullying has proved.

People forget how cyberspace made the world a global village. Consequences or backlash are no longer localized.

“Don’t think for a minute that a woman in a foreign country cannot access your home. She has access to all the information you share on social media,” said the AD FIA.

Aside from his exposé of how foreign women trap Pakistani men online, he warned women as well.

“Males or females, do not step out of your clothes on social media if you want to live a respectable life,”

How many will heed his warning?
