Wedding Guests in India Stab Each Other Over Shortage of Rasgullas

One guest was killed during the scuffle and five were injured.

A wedding reception in Etmadpur in Agra, Uttar Pardesh, turned into the scene of a crime last week after a fight erupted between the guests over a shortage of rasgullas.

Desi wedding ceremonies are often chaotic and messy, especially during food service. Guests tend to forget about the bride and groom as they rush to the buffet line to fill up their plates. However, this Indian wedding, in particular, turned into a nightmare, all because of a shortage of rasgullas.

Chaos ensued when some guests were not served rasgullas and they started hurling plates and chairs at each other in anger. Some even started attacking each other with sharp cutlery pieces.

A 22-year-old man was stabbed with a dinner knife while five others were left injured during the incident. The young man, Sunny, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead due to the serious injuries he sustained during the scuffle.

Here are a few aftermath images from the venue.

“The argument over the shortage of the sweets escalated into a serious fight and one man attacked the attendees with a knife,” local police officer Ravi Kumar Gupta told media reporters.

The victim’s family has filed a complaint to the police, as investigation is underway. No arrest has been made so far.

A Desi Delicacy

Rasgullas are a very popular dessert from the sub-continent. The ball-shaped dumpling is often on wedding menus and distributed at happy events.

It is surprising to see people become so violent over such a cute and sweet dessert.
