‘What’s Love Got to Do with It?’ Director Shekhar Kapur Gushes Over Sajal Aly at Red Sea Int’l Film Festival

“She’s one of Pakistan’s greatest actresses and she’s brilliant”.

The second edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival opened with the Sajal Aly-starrer What’s Love Got to Do with It? on Thursday.

Sajal Aly looked amazing in an ivory gown and high ponytail with bangs, while filmmaker Jemima Goldsmith walked the red carpet in a shimmering metallic ensemble. The two were joined by the cast of What’s Love Got to Do with It?, including Bollywood actress Shabana Azmi and director Shekhar Kapur.

The Indian filmmaker took to the stage to praise the Pakistani starlet before the film premiere, saying,

Do you know when you first came on the screen at the first showing, every man in the hall gasped! She’s one of Pakistan’s greatest actresses and she’s brilliant. Thank you very much, Sajal.

Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea International Film Festival was launched in 2019 in Jeddah and features emerging talents from the Arab world and the global south as well.

Some of the biggest names in Bollywood such as Kajol, Priyanka Chopra, and Shah Rukh Khan were in attendance as well this year, and the latter received an honorary award for his contribution to the film industry.

American film director, producer, and screenwriter, Oliver Stone, served as a judge for the Red Sea competition as 16 international films were in contention for the prized Yusr Awards.
