Detroit-based rapper and influencer Dank Demoss is furious that a Lyft driver refused to give the woman a ride because of her weight. To be fair to the driver, the woman weighs over 489 pounds.

The controversy began when woman who weighs 489 pounds (approximately 221.8 kg), attempted to book a Lyft driver. In a viral TikTok video that has racked up millions of views, Demoss is seen confronting the driver, identified only as Abraham, who refused to let her into his car.

In the video, Abraham can be heard explaining that his vehicle was too small to accommodate her and even cited concerns about the car’s tyres.

Demoss, however, repeatedly reassured him that she could fit in the car, saying, “I can fit in this car.” Despite her insistence, Abraham canceled the ride and assured her she wouldn’t be charged.

Following the incident, Demoss announced that she is suing Lyft for what she describes as weight-based discrimination. She claims that the driver’s refusal to provide her service was not only humiliating but also a violation of her rights.

“People like me deserve to be treated with respect,” Demoss said in a statement. “I’m not asking for special treatment—I’m asking for equal treatment.”

Lyft has since issued an apology for the driver’s behavior, stating that they are investigating the matter. However, Demoss is pressing forward with her lawsuit, reportedly seeking millions in damages for emotional distress and discrimination.

As expected, the internet has a lot to say about the incident, and opinions are sharply divided.

On one side, many users have expressed support for Demoss, arguing that the driver’s actions were discriminatory and that Lyft should have clearer policies to prevent such situations.

However, a significant portion of social media users have sided with the driver, arguing that he was within his rights to refuse service if he felt uncomfortable or if his vehicle genuinely couldn’t accommodate her.

The driver is right. If the car can’t handle the weight, it’s a safety issue,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “So huge she got out of breath talking and trying to ruin this driver’s life,” another commented.
