Popular Pakistani actress Yashma Gill took to her social media account on Twitter to share a disturbing encounter she and one of her friends had with the police.
Although the Pyar Kay Sadqay star wishes to bring the people involved to answer for their actions, Yashma made it clear that she is not blaming the law enforcement in general.
While there’s a lot of crimes being committed in Pakistan, people hope to see our law enforcement in action to maintain order and justice. However, at times, the same people we want to see uphold the law and keep us safe are also the ones who exploit vulnerable citizens.
As popular shows like Saar-e-Aam have shown us, there are some corrupt individuals in every law enforcement agency, even the police.

Recently, actress Yashma Gill shared a story about policemen involved in problematic behavior. The actress was dropping a friend home. According to the Pyar Kay Sadqay actress, she and her friends were allegedly stopped by a policeman under a false pretext.
DISCLAIMER: I am not generalising this experience on every policeman. I have had a lot of policemen help me and my friends before. But this is something I wanted to share, as it needs to be talked about. So that those policemen who indulge in such acts, be stopped. https://t.co/XjoZ66EbDq

The policeman in question stated that there is a new law that prohibited women from doing “awaragardi” (wandering) on the streets late at night.
This one time I was taking a drop home by a FEMALE friend of mine literally 5 minutes away from her house. All of a sudden, we were stopped by the police, and told that apparently some bill had been passed. That all females found doing “awaragardi” late at night will be arrested.

Yashma further added that the policeman asked her and her friends to step out of the car for checking. The actress and her friends were hesitant and uncomfortable as they were in their PJs without anything to cover themselves up from the surrounding policemen looking on.
We were then asked to step out of our car for a checking. To this we acted reluctant to as we both were in our Pjs without any chaddar to cover ourselves. We didn’t want to be standing out on the road that late at night with so many police men surrounding us.

But guess what, upon this reluctance we were threatened to be put in hand cuffs and taken to the police station. Upon being told this, we quickly locked the car and called our parents, as well as our friends.

My friend’s mother was the first to arrive and the police was extremely rude to her and kept saying, “garii mae dalo larkiyun ko”.

The police officer threatened to put her in handcuffs if she didn’t comply. Eventually, Yashma called her parents and another friend showed up in time before things escalated.
According to the actress, the police let her go because the head inspector among them was of the same caste as her other friend who arrived onto the scene.
We were lucky enough to have another friend arrive, right before they had almost put us in their van. And as apparently the head amongst them at that time was of the same caste as my friend so they decided to let us go 😒 I mean so much for WHAT?

If any such law like the one he was claiming to be in action was in existence thn how cud he let us tht easily in the end? Just cus he found someone who shared the same caste as him?
Till date I am unable to understand if any of tht which he tried to sell us tht night evn existed— Yashma Gill (@iamyashmagill) August 25, 2020
