An incident of torture and illegal captivity was reported in Lahore on Saturday. According to the reports, a 20-year-old maid was tortured and held captive at the owner’s house over accusation of stealing a mobile phone.
The maid’s family members alleged that the house owners tortured her and filmed their merciless actions on camera in the name of interrogation. They not only kept the 20-year-old in detention for two days, but also sent the so-called ‘interrogation’ video to her relatives.
On Saturday evening, she was handed over to Kot Lakhpat police. The maid’s family complained about her being kept at Kot Lakhpat instead of a police station for women.
When the house owners were approached by journalists outside the police station, they launched threats to the media persons instead of providing details about the incident.

Similar Incidents Against Young Maids in Lahore
According to the police, the deceased allegedly committed suicide. The police had reached the scene after being informed of the same, and launched an investigation.
Earlier in January, the police had found the body of a 16-year-old housemaid from a nearby sewage drain in Lahore’s Iqbal Town.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that Uzma was killed by one of her employers on January 18 for eating from her daughter’s plate. The woman hit her multiple times on her head with a steel dish. The assault ended up killing her. Her employer then dumped her body in the sewage drain.
The woman and her daughter were later arrested over murder charges.
