CDA to Establish Its Own Islamabad Public Transport Wing

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority has planned to establish its own Islamabad Public Transport Wing to operate the Metro Bus Services.

This came after the Federal Government failed to develop a dedicated mass transit authority for Islamabad.

Earlier, the National Highway Authority and CDA jointly proposed to establish a service identical to the Punjab Mass Transit Authority and to run the operations of the metro bus service in the capital.

However, the Orange Line Metro Bus Service operations that covered the area from Peshawar Mor to New International Airport were handed over to the CDA by the federal government.

Additionally, two metro services, green and blue lines, started to operate between PIMS hospital to Bara Kahu and Koral Chowk to PIMS hospital.

The service started on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and later its operations were handed over to the CDA. At present, it is handled temporarily by Faisal Movers.

It is important to mention that the CDA has also been engaged in obtaining buses and running 13 feeders linking different parts of the twin cities to the metro bus routes.

Currently, the CDA is managing all the operations related to transit service with limited staff and has planned to establish a dedicated wing headed by the Deputy Director General to manage the operations of the metro bus service.

It was also shared that the authority will be hiring 78 individuals on contract for this wing.

Furthermore, the road authority has contacted two consultants responsible for a feasibility study to develop a mass transit system that will operate between Rawat and Faisal Masjid and Bara Kahu and PIMS hospital.

The Consultants will also conduct a feasibility study for developing transport Infrastructure.

  2. Beauracracy must not do anything and must be taken out of any equation if we want to run effective public services! ! Dedicated professionals do these things!!

  3. Why from Rawat to Faisal Mosque. Why every body ignore a fact that many government official are living on this very route in various societies like Pakistan Town, Korang Town, police Foundation, PWD etc. How can they ignore most needed route from Rawat to Red Zone in Islamabad where all ministries are located. People have to spend huge amount monthly to reach offices since there is no regular and respectable transport system for employees.

  4. How can a regulator can run a public transport in Islamabad when they have failed to do so till to recently. This would be conflict of interest and another burden on exchequer. Let private sector do the needful, whereas CDA or MCI may have a regulatory mechanism.

  5. It must not be handed over to bureaucracy if CDA really wants to make this facility available in the best interest of public and make this project financially viable. It must be run through dedicated professional of relevant fields

  6. Let the professional run the analysis and then handover the whole plan to private sector if you want it to work properly, otherwise like many projects it will stated that we are in loss and the operations are going to be ceased soon. In a year or half the service will be gone.

  7. ممکن ہے کہ سی ڈی اے اسلام آباد میں پبلک ٹرانسپورٹیشن کے نظام کو احسن طریقے سر انجام دے پائے مگر اس کے لیئے پرانے دقیانوسی مختلف تھرڈ کلاس ویگن میں لوگوں کا سفر کرنا کسی گدھا گاڑیوں پر سفر کرنے سے کم نہیں بلکہ شاید اس سے بھی ابتر ہوتا ہے۔ پلاننگ کرتے وقت متعلقہ حکام نے عام آدمی کے بارے میں سوچا ہی نہیں کہ ان مذکورہ ویگنوں میں سفر کرنا کتنا کٹھن اور خود کو ذلیل و خوار کرنے کے مترادف ہے۔اب جو دو نئے نیلے، نارنجی اور ھرے رنگ کے روٹس بنائے گئے ہیں وہ نسبتا بہت بہتر ہیں لہذا کیا ہی اچھا ہو کہ اس طرح کے نوٹس ناصرف میٹرو فیڈر کے طور پر کام کریں بلکہ انہیں سیکٹر کو سیکٹر چلایا جائے تاکہ ہر خاص و عام آدمی کو دنیا کے خوبصورت ترین کیپیٹل میں آرام دہ سفر کی سہولیات میسر آ سکیں۔ امید ہے کہ اعلی حکام اس پر توجہ فرمائیں گے۔

    جو کہ شہر سے دور دراز دیہاتوں میں استعمال ہوتی ہے وہ چلتی ہے-
    اس سوزوکی میں بیٹھنا خاص طور پر بزرگوں کے لیے انتہائی مشکل اور تکلیف دہ عمل ہوتا ہے-
    اس روٹ پر بھی میٹرو بس سروس کی اشد ضرورت ہے-
