Investigation Progresses: Police Close in on Culprit Behind DHA Shooting

KARACHI: The police have claimed a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the targeted killing of the brother and nephew of a PTI dissident MPA, Aslam Abro.

According to the authorities, the killings were carried out in retaliation for a property dispute that occurred in 2019, resulting in three fatalities.

Akram Abro and his son Shaharyar were fatally shot, and two others were injured in a targeted attack by 5-6 gunmen traveling in a car and on a motorcycle in DHA Phase-VII.

An official disclosed that the suspected killer, Zubair Shahwani, a resident of Quetta, had arrived in Karachi on July 24 from Wadh, Khuzdar. After borrowing a silver Premio car from a friend in DHA, he executed the attack and fled back to Quetta.

It is alleged that Zubair Shahwani sought revenge for the killing of his nephew, Asif Shahwani, and two others in Gulshan-i-Maymar in 2019, which was purportedly orchestrated by MPA Aslam Abro due to the property dispute.

The suspect had publicly declared on social media that he had taken revenge.

South DIG Irfan Ali Baloch stated that the police investigators confirmed Zubair Shahwani’s involvement through technological assistance before he claimed responsibility on social media.

The DIG, leading the investigative team, revealed that Zubair Shahwani was the main suspect, and efforts were underway to apprehend him, and his accomplices connected to the double murder.

South-SSP Syed Asad Raza, another member of the probe team, reported that they had completed the technical data analysis.

He stated that Zubair Shahwani had arrived in Karachi 3 days before the murders and stayed in his residence located in Nishat Commercial in DHA.

The suspect and his accomplices conducted reconnaissance on the Abro family before committing the crime.

Besides, the footage from 25 closed-circuit cameras showed two suspects on a motorbike chasing the victims and informing their accomplices in a car via cell phone.

Following the killings, the alleged perpetrators returned to their residence in DHA, where police conducted a raid and recovered incriminating evidence, including videos that indicated their involvement in the crime.
