KARACHI: On Thursday, the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) began its anti-encroachment operations in several parts of the city by removing more than 500 huts that had been built illegitimately on state-owned land next to the University of Karachi.
The operation to recover land in Gulishtan-i-Jauhar that was started on Tuesday, according to additional director of KDA’s State and Enforcement Department Jameel Baloch, was successful.
He said that the retrieved land would be allocated to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and a proposal to the provincial government to allot the land to PDMA would be sent soon.
KDA additional director said that 15 acres of land where unlawful squatters had built buildings were also recovered.
According to KDA spokesperson Akram Sattar, KDA Director General Muhammad Ali Shah gave the order to start the anti-encroachment operation in other regions of the city.
He said that actions were underway to return the property to its original state and that “no pressure will be accepted” during the aggressive operation against encroachments.
