Points Criteria for Group Matches:

The group stages (first round and Super 12s) of the T20 World Cup 2022 will be played according to the rules and regulations of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The points system for the group stages of the tournament will be according to any ICC-authorized event. This means that the winner of the match will be awarded two points while zero points will be awarded for a loss. In case the match ends in no result, both teams will be awarded one point each. If the match ends in a tie, Super Over will be played in order to decide the winner.

In case of a Super Over, both teams will play one over each and the team with more runs will be awarded the win and subsequently two points. If the Super Over ends in a tie, continuous Super Overs will be played until there is a result.

The T20 World Cup rankings in the group stages will be determined according to the following criteria:

  1. At first, the team with most points at the end of the group stage will be guaranteed the first spot in the points table.
  2. If teams are equal on points at the top of the table, then the team with a higher net run rate will finish in the first position.
  3. In case of multiple teams finishing on equal points and net run rate, then the team with most wins will finish higher.
  4. In case the above-stated criteria is also equal, the team with fewer losses will finish higher.
  5. If teams are still inseparable, then the head-to-head result will determine the standings in the 2022 T20 World Cup points table.

All teams within a group will face each other once. Accordingly, the top two teams will qualify for the mega-event semi-finals.
