How the Points Table Works
The T20 World Cup 2026 points table is according to the ICC rules and regulations. Teams are awarded 2 points for a win, no points for a loss, and one point each if the game is abandoned.
- In case of a tie, the match will be decided through a super over, where the winning team will get 2 points.
- In case the super over ends in a tie, the teams will continue playing super overs until a winner is decided.
- The group standings will be decided according to points accumulated.
- In case the points are equal, the position will be decided through net run rate and then head-to-head.
What Is NRR and Why Does It Matter
NRR decides many tight qualification races. It measures how strongly a team performs across matches. It rewards big wins. It also punishes heavy defeats.
So when teams finish level on points, net run rate (NRR) often separates them. That is why the points table shows NRR next to points, not as an afterthought.
Qualification Rules: Who Advances
The group stage works like a filter. The top 2 teams from each group move forward to Super 8s stage. After that, top four teams from the Super 8s qualify for the semi-finals. The winner of each semi-final will eventually qualify for the final.
