PTA Holds Information Session for Prospective Bidders of Next Generation Spectrum Auction

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) held an information session for the prospective bidders of next generation spectrum auction here in Islamabad on Thursday.

Chairman PTA, Dr. Syed Ismail Shah, Member (Finance) Mr. Tariq Sultan, representatives from Value Partners Management Consulting (the international consultants hired by the PTA for spectrum evaluation and advice on the auction process), senior officers of mobile operators and other PTA representatives attended the session.

Representatives of Value Partners briefed the participants about different aspects of upcoming auction process and arrangements for it being made by the PTA.

The consultation session provided professional analysis on the whole bidding process as per PTA’s Information Memorandum (IM) and for the successful completion of auction in a transparent manner.

The bidders showed keen interest in the upcoming spectrum auction for next generation mobile services in Pakistan.

The auction is scheduled to be held on the 23rd of April 2014, where three 3G licenses and two 4G licenses will be handed out. The 3G technology will be rolled out soon after the auction while the 4G technology is expected to take a year after the auction.

The government is expected to raise around $1.2 billion from the auction of these licenses.
