Voyeur Nation – Spy Cams Businesses Doing E-Marketing

Just today I received this email from someone whom I didn’t know – spam in easy terms. The subject of the email was interesting so I decided to have a look at it. To my amusement, the email was concerned about Spy Gadgets. It was a shock for me. Don’t you think that I live in age of stones. But the fear I had long ago came in shape of email. My total Axe on the foot fault!!

Flashback. Years ago I came across one friend of mine who told me that now spy cameras are around in market. That was shocking moment for me. I asked on him that what do they ask for like money? He said that its cheap and you can find it easily in FLANA FLANA market.

I had goosebumps because the privacy got loose that very day for me atleast.

Years passed by and I did come across some dirty voyeurism in various shapes. Be it spycam or cellphone cams. But today, this is the height of it.

Now, these guys who might be or might not be having license to issue these spy gadgets are on the roll. They are actually E-Marketing this product. Telling us to go for it. Go for the self-kill. Head-shot. Pump Action. Anything.

Here is what they wrote in their innocent email marketing campaign.

“This technology was originally developed for law enforcement and other various investigation agencies to aid in the collection of evidence. ….. Use this covert camera as a nanny cam to record what your contractor, baby sitter or housekeeper are doing in your home while your away.Record problems with boss or co-worker in the work place. Record important meetings, interviews & social events.”

After reading this statement, one starts thinking that “Hey! that’s not bad. I can now keep check on anyone” but look at the other side of the mirror. How many of us will actually think that way of keeping eye on Nannies? We are voyeur nation. We love to keep our eyes on others private life. We love to hear about other people private life. We love to whisper and gossip about others.

I don’t know that what does the law say about such kind of business? Does the law bar people to capture one’s private life? As far as I remember, I read it in Cyber Terrorsim Law that taking photographs or making video of someone without telling him or her is strictly prohibited.

Be Cautious folks. Some people are not what they look like.

  • Aamal ka dar-o-madaar neat per hai :-)
Spy Cams are bad if they are used with bad intentions …. so as every thing :-)
In last 2 years, two of our motor bikes are stolen so putting a spy cam to watch who is trying to sneak in our house shouldn’t be a bad idea … what say ?

  • @Shahzad – Totally agreed. That’s why I wrote “How many of us will actually think of something like that”.. Technology isn’t bad. My point is that these gadgets should be monitored by some governing body so that they don’t show up at our window panes next time.

  • Now in a country which has always been a Police/Military state & where these two institutions have been invading in your private life & can pick you any time and when even courts can’t help you you have to accept the fact that you may not be victim of recording by a spy cam but you will not get protection from invasion from police or military, you live with it or you should leave this country for good.

Now if you try to capture beauty of nature, something well done in development work, or VIP culture on roads when you are waiting in traffic for so called “bara admi” to pass, you can be held any time by a Policeman or a Military Police guard in the name of “security”. No rules they know violating which you will be held.

I would have appreciated if writer was writing about video recording by cell phones, where you can do it and where not and laws governing those, and where which law stops you stops you from doing this in the name of “security”.

  • they are using these spy cams for third party mystery shoppings and companies as good as AC neilson are proud of using this crap to hand over video evidence of thier visits. Warid has been using such mystery shoppings and rest are about to embark.
i don’t know why can’t they trust their own people.

  • ladies… ladies,
    if I may?

    *clears throat*

I saw the same pen being publicly advertised on some Indian channel less than a week ago.
Hence, it’s definitely not banned in India.

Besides, I’ve also seen similar gadgets like this pen that the writer has mentioned in his post, being sold on ebay (probably 5 years ago) & you know ebay is pretty stringent for the kind of items sold on its website (excluding some other responsibilities which ebay clearly states it will not held accountable for)

so the bottom line I’m trying to get across to you gentlemen (apologies if “bitten” happens to be a female) is that it’s inevitable that gadgets like these will be sold in the market may it be today or tomorrow and I’m sure there are already people out there in Pakistan who already own such fancy gadgets may it be in the face of a pen or some thing else(no big deal if these Pakistani’s hail from the US/Canada/Europe etc).

Now the issue is at times all of a sudden unusual and bizarre laws are implemented in Pakistan which one may have difficulty finding elsewhere across the globe. so there could be a tax for every recording you do lol
