PTA Blocks Access to Anti Islamic Film on YouTube

Innocence of MuslimsPakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has proactively blocked and vigorously preventing all access to Anti-Islamic video placed on worldwide web via YouTube, said a statement issued by the authority.

Earlier, Afghanistan, Egypt, Libya and other Islamic countries had already blocked the partial of complete access of YouTube in their respective states.

This all started when an independent video film maker Sam Bacile – who identified himself as an Israeli Jewish to The Wall Street Journal – made a mockery film with 5 million dollar that he had collected as donation from Jewish community to make a sarcastic movie to mock Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H) was uploaded on YouTube.

Mocking film was largely condemned in United States, and large scale protests were recorded in Middle East including Libya and Egypt. In fact the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi was stormed and burned by the protestors, killing the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans.

The issue which was largely unknown to Pakistani community, was taken care of by PTA in advance. Authority has said that it is in close liaison with all the service providers for immediate blocking of the provocative video being uploaded with changed Internet Protocol from abroad. Proactive monitoring and blocking is being done, round the clock.

PTA is mandated to block blasphemous and pornographic websites. Websites which contain offensive, objectionable and obnoxious material are blocked on the direction of the Government as per mandated protocols.

The foreign ministry of Pakistan also condemned the airing of the video clip, saying that it maligned the ‘revered and pious personality of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)’ on the eve of the anniversary of 9/11 attacks.

“Such abominable actions, synchronised with commemoration of atrocious events like 9/11, provoke hatred, discord and enmity within societies and between peoples of various faiths,” said a statement issued by the foreign ministry.

How to Report PTA for any Blasphemous Content:

PTA has asked the general public,  through a press note, to bring to its notice if same video is available for viewing through any ISP/mobile operator in Pakistan at any time on this email ID: [email protected]
