HP has launched its latest laptop: the Spectre x360. It is a hybrid laptop/tablet which will compete with the Macbook Air. It has an aluminum body which is 15.9mm thick and only weighs 3.3 pounds. The basic model retails for $900. It has an i5 processor, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD, and a 1080p touchscreen display.
There are two mid-range models: $999 and $1,149. The first one has the same specs as the basic model. The only difference is that it has a 256GB SSD and 8 GB RAM. The second one has a Core i7-equipped model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD for $1,149.99. The Spectre x360 high-end model has a Quad HD screen, Core i7, 8GB of RAM and 512GB SSD. It will be available in a few weeks and will sell for $1400.
All models are equipped with 3 USB 3.0 ports, HDMI Port, SD Card Reader and a Mini Display Port. HP has also added an extra wide trackpad and a backlit keyboard. The multi-touch panel feels quite intuitive.
It is a beautiful machine which looks quite professional. The Spectre x360 gets around 10 to 12.5 hours of battery, which puts it on par with the Macbook Air. It also beats the Macbook Air by coming up with a 1080p display. HP claims that it can play 1080p video for 11 hours straight.
Yet tests have shown that it can only run for half of the promised 12 hour time. You can get HP’s results if you keep the settings to the lowest. The keyboard is quite flexible and is easy on the wrists.
