Mobile Phone Services to Remain Suspended During Ashura

Mobile phone services are to remain suspended on 10th of Muharram or October 24th, 2015 in several districts across Pakistan, we have been told by sources.

There are some districts where services will be suspended for one day on 10th Muharram only, while others will face service shut-down for both 9th and 10th Muharram.

Phone services are likely to get offline in the morning around or before 9AM and will get back online only after 10PM.

TV reports are claiming that mobile phone services will remain offline in at least 68 districts across the country.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority will send directions for service closure to respective phone operators later this week.

TV reports suggest that all provincial governments had requested Interior Ministry for closure of mobile phone services during 9th and 10th of Muharram due to security reasons. Consequently, Interior Ministry directed PTA to ensure service closure during Ashura.

PTA doesn’t communicate press the names of districts where services will be shut down or schedule of service closure by saying that this information can not be revealed in advance due to security concerns.
