Samsung’s Smartphone Market Share the Highest in Q3 2015

Samsung has added yet another achievement to its list, by being the top vendor by smartphone shipments for the third quarter of 2015. According to a research from DigiTimes, Apple was closing in on Samsung’s position with an impressive 14.5 percent market share, which had been boosted thanks to the sales of its iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

A Look at the Numbers and Statistics

Despite that sales boom, Samsung still holds 25.6 percent of the smartphone market share, though there are signs that the company’s market share has started to dwindle, one margin at a time. This is thanks to the other Android smartphone manufacturers such as Lenovo, Huawei and Xiaomi; three rising Chinese tech companies that are releasing far more affordable handsets in comparison, in order to capture the market.

Huawei, which has done tremendously well for itself, has a market share of 7.4 percent, followed by Lenovo, which is regarded as the largest desktop and laptop manufacturer in the world, came in 4th place with a market share of 4.5 percent.

Surprisingly, another South Korean company besides Samsung has had a great run and that is LG, which currently has a market share of 4.5 percent. At number six, was Xiaomi, with a share of 3.8 percent, but thanks to having a vast portfolio of several other products besides smartphones, which include appliances to smart TVs, we doubt that the company will be worried about these results for too long.

Is this China’s Decade?

According to the research, a total of nine Chinese smartphone manufacturers have occupied significant positions amongst the top 15 manufacturers, with Chinese brands coming into their own when it comes to smartphones. With more and more companies releasing smartphones with prices that cater to the masses’ wallets and deliver them consistent performance for a long time, we could be seeing China possessing a tight grip on this market in the near future.
