HEC Approves 2 Projects for University-Industry Technology Support Program

The Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan organized an expert committee meeting to review feasibility of proposals submitted to HEC under its University-Industry Technology Support Programme (UITSP) at the Commission Secretariat.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Arshad Ali, Executive Director, HEC, while the expert committee comprised representatives from academia and industry.

Five presentations based on proposals of various new projects were made during the meeting. Out of these proposals, the experts panel approved two projects for execution. Another two projects were reserved for their rationalization in accordance with the points raised by the committee, while one project was rejected.

The proposals included:

  • Development of an embedded system for an automatic real time vehicle to counter theft incidents,
  • Development and characterization of textile industry fibrous waste reinforced concrete/ cement mortar,
  • Development of industry high quality and low cost automotive textile,
  • Manufacturing of a herbal product,
  • Process development for automated fibre reinforced polymer composites by pultrusion method.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Arshad Ali highlighted the importance of UITSP and shared the objectives of this programme. He said the purpose of this programme is to strengthen academia-industry linkages and encourage researchers to bring innovative ideas for execution and ultimate socio-economic progress of the country.
