Crowdfunded projects are often used by startups and budding entrepreneurs to get their projects a much-needed boost but as of late many corporations are increasingly making use of them.
After Sony launched its own crowd-funding platform a while back, ZTE joins the fray as the latest to head towards Kickstarter. Unfortunately, the phone for the most part is not at all a majorly-disrupting device in the smartphone ecosystem.
Called the Hawkeye (just an early name) comes with a dual-camera setup with a 13 MP and a 12 MP lens, along with an LED Flash and a fingerprint scanner.
Eye-Tracking Tech Included
The phone supports eye-tracking technology which can scroll webpages and the lot, along with voice commands. The device’s case is also made of a special adhesive material which can make it stick to a variety of surfaces. Perfect phone for Spidey.
And that’s about it when it comes to special features, unless you consider Android Nougat as one. There’s a 5.5” 1080p display on the front, with an 8 MP camera.
A Not So Powerful Hawk
Under the hood is a Snapdragon 625 processor with spacious 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of expandable storage. Bluetooth 4.2, 2.4/5GHz Wi-Fi ac, dual-SIM connectivity and NFC are also onboard. Battery capacity is set at 3000 mAh, with support for Quick Charge 2.0.
At least on pre-order the phone costs quite an acceptable $199, which makes up for the lack of innovation-backed charm.
The Kickstarter campaign hasn’t gained a lot of traction. Its goal is set at $500,000 and it has only gained $31,467 as of now. There are only 31 days left for funding so the likelihood of Hawkeye making it past the funding stage is low.
