Ch. Nisar Suspends Mastercard’s Agreement with NADRA

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has taken strong notice of recent agreement between National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) with MasterCard for financial transactions.

According to a statement issued by Interior Ministry, the said agreement was signed without taking written permission from the government, no one was ever consulted and it went through without considering the sensitive security issues.

The Interior Minister directed for an immediate suspension of the agreement.

He has also sought a reply from NADRA as to why and under which laws a foreign-based company was being given access to its records.

The minister said use of modern technology for foreign transactions is a good thing but there cannot be any compromise on the security of national database records.

He said no organization can be allowed to cross its mandate.

Previously SBP also initiated an investigation on the agreement, but since it’s not suspended, it is likely that SBP is going to drop the investigation.

  • The foreign telecom companies that do bio metric verification do also access this database. They can view all ??? what about that Mr. Govt

    • They take data from NADRA. Whenever Someone’s data doesn’t match, they send him to Nadra office not to their own Head office in Islamabad. They take data from NADRA every time.

    • Please be aware the Bio-Metric verification is a “VALIDATION” process not the sharing of personal data. Once a verification request is generated it only asks NADRA database about a possible match. The response is “success” or “failed” and they can’t view a bit of NADRA’s Database. Same Bio-Metric verification procedures are now conducted by ISPs as well and its quite handy and secured.

  • “Ch Nisar takes strong notice of potential cash flow inside Pakistan out of his control”
I fixed the title guys… your welcome.

  • Ch. Nisar has taken right decision that is in favor of national interest. the nadra data is really sensitive and its security on information sharing to other stakeholders may be taken too much seriously.

  • After all that Snowden has leaked, it’s entirely reasonable to assume that NSA already has had real-time read and write access of biometric database of the entire registered Pakistani population since the formation of NADRA in 2002 (with American technical assistance no less).
