Radio Pakistan has now started work on converting its transmission to state-of-the-art DRM Plus technology, and make its broadcasts clearer and cost-effective.
The Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) technology enhances quality of broadcasts to perfection. It is designed to cover the bands that are currently used for analogue broadcasting such as AM and FM. This means that the present AM and FM transmitters of Radio Pakistan can be made compatible to this technology with some adjustments.
Benefits of DRM Plus Technology
DRM is more spectrally efficient than both AM and FM. It allows more stations in a given bandwidth but it does that at a much higher quality than you get from either AM or FM.
Three channels can be aired from a single transmitter by using this technology which will ultimately prove cost effective for Radio Pakistan. The DRM technology will also enable listeners to avail facility to get access to text services as well.
Khurshid Malik, the Director General (DG) of Radio Pakistan visited the upcoming project at the Broadcasting House in Islamabad on Monday where he was briefed about the current progress on introducing DRM technology.
The engineering wing was directed by the DG to accelerate work and revamp the Equipment Production Unit of Radio Pakistan, This unit can serve as a modern lab where engineers may work on transmitters after completion of warranty period.
According to Khurshid Malik, the DRM technology will help listeners across the country to enjoy clear broadcasts of Radio Pakistan and it will certainly attract more and more listeners to our broadcasts. He also stressed on the need of improving the contents of programmes too besides introducing modern technology to cater the needs of everyone.

DRM is “digital rights management”. This would require customers to buy special radio receivers to decode the signals by verifying themselves. It would not improve signal quality in any way. All it would do is block users from recording broadcasts or listening in to unpaid broadcasts without a subscription.
Maybe propakistani should do some fact checking before copy pasting articles from other websites? It doesn’t even state in the article what DRM stands for.
I suggest you read the article one more time, especially the second paragraph.
While Shark Lasers is wrong about what DRM is, he is not wrong about new receiver. Digital Radio Mondiale is “digital radio”, not the same as analog FM/AM radio we have. You will need a digital receiver to listen to it.
Haha! At first I also thought it was talking about “digital rights management” (which is more like digital restrictions management). Glad to find out that it isn’t.
i dont know would it do anything goodD? free
