Income Tax Non-Filers Can Now Be Imprisoned & Fined

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has started imposing fines and penalties against those citizens who do not file annual income tax returns and their wealth statement. A non-compliance act can lead to a two year imprisonment according to FBR sources.

Tax departments have issued massive number of notices to individuals who do not comply with the regulations and fail to submit their tax returns along with the applicable fines/penalties.aa

The FBR sources say that at first the tax department enforced the minimum penalty on citizens who neglected to record their income tax returns for the tax year 2015 and the years before it. Under Section 191 of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, the board has now started prosecuting individuals who do not submit their tax returns even after receiving notices from the FBR. FBR sources said that indictment for resistance would likewise be started in further non-compliance to the notices distributed by taxation departments under Section 191 of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.

Under the umbrella of this section, any non-compliance with regards to tax returns will be considered as a culpable offense with a fine of Rs. 50,000, imprisonment for a period of up to two years, or both.

Nice Step FBR ! Even i should be pay taxes because i am falling into higher salary scale (As Per Scale of FBR) but i didn’t paid yet.

    • If you are understanding that you will have to pay more tax in terms of Income Tax return, you are considering the purpose wrong.

If you are working as an employee, you will not have to pay tax again while filing your income tax return. Just make sure that your employer deducts tax from your salary and you are all good. If you are professional and know how to file income tax return (which you probably be not), you can simply file your income tax return by providing the correct information and reconciling it altogether.

If you need further assistance in understanding about income tax return or whether you want to hire my services as an “Income Tax Consultant”, I would be obliged to serve you better.

I shall better be contacted through Email as I can be busy and may not receive your phone call.

      Thank you.

  • WOW, you are not upgrading your system from centuries, and planning to imprisonment the white color job peoples, that’s freaking ridiculous. just because they don’t “file” the tax that already paid. Well Done FBR, I guess FBR have biggest A$$holes then our politicians.

    • Tax is never already paid and it is misunderstood. Tax deducted at source is only partial and advance tax. When you file your tax return, you may need to pay balance amount. If withheld tax is more than the applicable amount, you may claim for refund.

      • Dear, for salaried class income tax is already paid at source. They get their salaries after deduction of income tax. So unless they have other source of income, their income tax liability is no more.

      • ok mr. Gulam Mustafa, can you please tell me the NAME of one PERSON in your family or friends or friends of friends who has every Claimed a tax refund and received it, Tax is the way of the Kuffar not the muslims, Muslims should only liable to pay complete Zakat, as many Pakistanis are involved in Sood and dont pay complete Zakat and try to evade it that is why Allah has enforced this tax system on us through the ibred disgusting breeds ruling us. These rulers are the manifestation of our own morbid deeds.

        • Dear Fahad jawaid, Tax is not kuffar. Do you have a Fatwa? if you have so, can you please provide it here and I will verify with the Mufti myself if tax is haram or you are giving a Fatwa yourself???

    • well, that’s the thing. when you have already paid your tax, you should not pay tax again. Therefore, you file income tax return and save your withholding taxes that you pay to other government or private institutions.

For salaried individuals, it benefits you in terms of saving you from paying double tax.

      • Thank for your offer,
I always file my tax return, I was complaining about their Slow Ass System and the punishment they were thinking about to implement, but I guess its not approved.

  • My tax return and wealth statement is all prepared.. just waiting to press Submit button.. waiting till i see the judgement in the Panama Case..

    • Don’t press submit as “hundi” and “hawala” will still never stop which is causing outflow of black money from Pakistan in any case. Visit Qissa Khawani Bazar and you will be shocked to see that this illegal business which can destroy economy of any country is done openly, billions every day.

  • would anybody belv that every filler needs an active service contract with some tax consultant to submit these returns (extra 2000 per month going to tax consultant). they have not put any effort to make process easier to file but are wishing for this impossible to happen. if our finance minister mr. ishaq dar can fill both wealth statement and income statement himself – this act can be favored otherwise it is just a bullshit.

    • This is not the way you have to hire a consultant. if you are salaried and your issues are simpler, you just have to pay 2000 once a year for tax return.

Please contact for further assistance if you need any..

I shall better be contacted through email as I may be busy to receive call at the moment.
