New Islamabad Airport’s launch is closing in. One of the country’s biggest airports is set to be operational by 14th August 2017. A few months ago, a video went viral, giving us a sneakpeak at the new airport, now we have several pictures which show the current state of infrastructure.
Government revealed that the airport would be 95 percent complete by the end of March and by looking at the pictures, we think things are finally on schedule. Previously the airport’s launch date was delayed several times.
The new airport is estimated to serve 4,500 people at the same time. 15 aircraft parking bays and the ability to dock two Airbus A-380 planes, makes it the stand out air hub in Pakistan. State of the art facilities in cargo management, safety, security and passenger facilitation are sure to improve people’s air travel experience.
Linked motorways, GT road and metro bus project will make the airport easily accessible for people in the whole region.
Previously, the airport has garnered a lot of attention thanks to year-long delays and design flaws. The airport was supposed to have the capacity to fly and land two planes at the same time, but an engineering error led to the construction of airways closer than they should have been. The project cost has exceeded Rs. 100 billion.

yes, for the price of same, they could have built 30 small airports and still have money left. With the people going to cities closer to their hometowns, we didn’t need a huge airport. Pakistan doesn’t get much air traffic anyway.

I think you guys have no idea that overseas Pakistanis from Rawalpindi, Gujjar Khan, Hazara, Murree and other areas also travel from Islamabad. So called Islamabad airport in operation is basically an airbase of PAF, so capital deserves an airport at least. And then capital pays billions in taxes :)
In your own words Pakistan doesn’t have much air traffic, this is true for small cities..so your argument for small airports doesn’t make sense.
Karachi’s Air-traffic is almost quadruple more than the rest of Pakistan. so yeah & why I’ve to fly to islamabad for my direct Khi-DXB flight? because my govt spent Billions of rupees on a redundant Airport!

I find it quite average looking. May be 50 years ago, this could have been state of the art but not so anymore.
THE PROBLEM IS NOT WHEN ITS UNDER CONSTRUCTION- THE REAL WILL BE WHEN PAKISTANI PEOPLE WILL USE/ABUSE IT… They cannot maintain or build a control neat and clean environment around it.. Inside it will soon give a bad look and also soon outside the airport we will just unplanned bazar’s and housing colonies and make the whole place congested and dirty plus unsafe. It should become a MODEL AIRPORT DESIGNED TO BRING INTERNATIONAL TOURIST AND TRANSIT PASSENGERS. with all international level facilitates all the time… We should build a 5 star hotel in it with selected shops and places to relax of internal level and reduce TAX on airlines landing there. We destroyed Karachi Airport by extra parking fee’s

There is nothing to Impress Alot , Very sorry. but can any one cofirm what is the capacity of Immigration / Boarding and Passport Control loge . Unfortunately, the Lahore Air port becomes Jumma Bazar at mid night when 2 or 3 Arab flights come at same time.

Because PPP hired a firm that has not a single engineer who has experience of designing an Airport.
