Rainfall Expected Nationwide Over the Weekend

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted heavy rains from Saturday till Tuesday in Karachi and some parts of Balochistan as the second system of monsoon enters both Sindh and Balochistan.

The second spell of monsoon will enter Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir from Monday but these areas are also predicted to see rainfall from Saturday till Tuesday.

Upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir are also expected to receive more rainfall on Sunday and Wednesday.

Due the unexpected downpour across the country over the past 2 days, more than 22 people have been killed in tragic incidents related to rain. MET Office said there isolated heavy thunderstorms will also be witnessed in regions of Balochistan and some vulnerable areas may even suffer from urban flooding and flash flooding.

PMD has specifically asked the relevant authorities to stay alert in order to make necessary arrangements in case of any flooding.

Talking about water levels, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said that the water level in Mangla Dam rose to 1,211 feet (max level 1,242 feet). In Tarbela Dam, levels have increased to 1,490 feet (max level 1,550 feet).

  • Water levels in dams are given in feet. River flow is measured in cusecs (cubic feet per second). When will they learn that international metric system was adopted officially decades ago? Imperial measurements (foot, pound, mile) are used in only two countries of the world, US and UK.
