Boys Outperform Girls in Pre-Medical Exams

The results of intermediate (class XII) science (pre-medical) annual examinations 2017 were announced by the Board of Intermediate Education (BIEK), Karachi, on Wednesday.

The results revealed that most of the top six merit positions were secured by boys.

Big dreams and high ambitions

Securing the first position, with a percentage of 90.91,  was Mohammad Hassan of Adamjee Government Science College.

He said that he hopes to get into Dow University of Health Sciences. If not, then  Jinnah Sindh Medical University or Karachi Medical and Dental College remain his other preferred options.

Hassan’s proud father stood right beside him and told the media how pleased he was with his child. The parents, themselves belonging to the medical profession, said

“He worked so hard. I watched him fill up one journal after another in these two years,”

Meanwhile, Maryam Batool of St Lawrence Government Girls Degree College  secured the second position with a percentage of 90.36.

The third position was shared by two boys – Umair Wajid and Mohammad Owais Sonija with a percentage of 89.82. Both boys belonged to Adamjee Government Science College.

The ceremony

The ceremony to celebrate the success of the students was held in Sir Syed Government Girls College’s auditorium. The ceremony was simple but well-organized, and began on time.

The ceremony was attended by the BIEK chairman Prof Inam Ahmed. He congratulated the colleges the students belonged to.

He appreciated the students’ achievements and provided the details. He told that:

  • A total of 21738 candidates were registered for the exams
  • The exams was attempted by 21,477 candidates
  • Out of those students, 11.170 candidates passed the examination
  • 1238 candidates secured A-1 grade
  • 2974 passed with A grade
  • 3314 passed with B grade
  • 832 secured D grade

Results for the annual medical technology examination were also announced. The chairman disclosed that there were only four candidates for the exam and only three managed to pass it.

The chairman thanked the BIEK staff and presented his special thanks to Mohammad Jaffar, the controller of examinations, for his hard work.

Appreciation to the students  

Prof Anis, the chief guest of the event, congratulated the students and stressed upon the importance of education. He said “Education is your last resort. It will always help in life.”

He further expressed his pride in the students and told the students that they had proved to be hard working and that he is glad that tomorrow’s doctors are so hard working.

At the end of the event, students were presented with certificates and gifts of books.

The position holders were also given cash prizes. The amounts awarded were:

  • First position: Rs30,000
  • Second position: Rs20,000
  • Third position: Rs10,000

Students of home economics, who had received their results earlier in the month, were also invited and given their certificates, gifts and cash prizes.


    • Yea u r right. All, girls are good at, is only trapping rich boys with zero brain cells.

  • Don’t generalize each and every one of them for the sins of the few.

    If we can even call them ‘sins’.
