Lenovo’s New Thinkpads Come with AMD’s Processors

Lenovo just brought to the table two new laptops for its famous, business-oriented, ThinkPad series. The two ThinkPads, A275 and A475, are completely similar except for the display sizes.

The former comes with a 12.5-inch display, while the latter ups that to a larger 14-inch panel. There is an optional touchscreen for those who want it. Base models get 900p resolution on TN panels though 1080p IPS displays are available (IPS is miles better than a TN panel btw).

The price difference, which is a meager $20 between the two variants, means it’ll likely come down to personal preference among the users planning to buy the laptops.

The biggest draw here will be AMD’s new Pro series APUs that you’ll find in these ThinkPads. The new options include both Bristol Ridge Pro and Carrizo Pro options, going all the way to the A12-9800B.

The 28nm-based 7th-gen processors bring DDR4 memory support, and it shows here with ability to pair with up to 16 GB of RAM. Storage needs are handled by either a hard drive or up to a 512 GB NVMe SSD.

Connectivity Options

For connectivity, you have pretty much all the basics covered, including a USB Type-C, two USB Type-A 3.0 ports, HDMI for videos, a card reader and an Ethernet jack, although, higher-end options such as Thunderbolt 3 aren’t included. For wireless, you get Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11ac, as well as LTE modems, though, we don’t know if they are standard or optional.

Design wise, the laptops are nothing to write home about. It isn’t a problem since the ThinkPad series values function over form, though, almost an inch-thick design and almost three pounds of heft won’t flatter anyone in this age. At least, the 10-hour battery life tries to make up for it somewhat.

Price and Availability

Price-wise, you are looking at a range which starts at $849 for the ThinkPad A275, or $869 for the ThinkPad A475. The complete list of processor options will be made available once the laptops hit the market later this month.
