United Bank Limited has registered a complaint with the Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime unit against some social media posts.
UBL issued a letter to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) to inform that there are certain messages on social media platforms, especially on WhatsApp that are spreading fake news against the bank.
According to UBL, these messages are fake, false, malicious and contain inter-alia, derogatory, defamatory, remarks against UBL. The aim of these messages seems to be to damage the reputation of the bank.
“UBL has taken serious notice of the matter and decided to report to the FIA Cyber Crime Circle under the appropriate laws including Prevention of Electronic Crime Act (PECA) 2016,” the notice said.
UBL external communication department head Ali Habib told ProPakistani that fake news is spreading against UBL as part of a malicious campaign. These messages started being circulated in March this year when fake news spread regarding the UBL management.
“UBL is a large, strong and profitable bank. But some people are spreading fake news about the bank. To protect the brand image of the bank and the confidence of its shareholders, UBL has decided to take a step to stop this campaign, “ Ali Habib added.
He was also asked about this correspondent about ‘what is the motive of this campaign and who are the people creating these fake news.’
Ali Habib responded:
“we don’t know the people and their motive. That’s why UBL contacted FIA to probe the matter. On social media, people start sharing news without verifying it and this in turn damages the reputation of the organization.”

Reputation of the bank ? LOL do they have a good reputation …like seriously ?
UBL is the worst ever bank of its kind, its inland and overseas branches included.
1- So called Tazraftaar remittance transfer doesn’t work and you get remittances in days..UBL found the solution that your bank account number is in classical format, if it is in IBAN format remittances will arrive asap. So who will do it , will not UBL change format of its classical bank account number to IBAN or customer will log into their system to do it?
2- If an account gets dormant they will force you to finally beat them in branch as even after visiting ten times they will make a sorry face, 100% on fault and lazy with no regrets.
3- Did someone tweet on their tweeter handle on UBLdirect dot com ? It was not functional last time I tweeted for them.
4- Their “Chaay” help-desk (in Karachi) for NRPs will ask you tens of questions to verify you and are extremely STUP!D , one they refused to verify me as I didn’t tell them branch name which bank staff mistakenly included in my home address, and it clearly says “xyz branch”.
5- They are plain liars, they show you fraudulent ways to open accounts as NRP, I approached SBP for this but what happened after a month ….I got an email that ” As you refused to deposit initial amount to open account, this was the reason account was not opened” … and this way they saved their concerned staff and “honor” of the bank. Here SBP clearly favored the bank putting a cover on their such practices.
