WhatsApp is Bringing Better Management for Your Media Files

If you have the Facebook app on your phone, you’ll know that it takes up a lot of space. In some cases your phone may also slow down all thanks to a single social network app.

WhatsApp is also guilty of taking up a lot of space on your phone. How many times have you had to delete photos and videos from WhatsApp just to save space?

Thankfully, WhatsApp will now make your life easier by adding better storage management options in an upcoming update. The features are currently available in WhatsApp’s latest beta update.

Sort Your Storage

The Facebook-owned company will soon allow users to distinguish between different messages based on type file, such as GIFs, videos, audios, documents, photos, contacts, texts, etc. Users will then be able to delete the content type which is taking up most of the space or is seldom-viewed.

The analytics can be viewed in a tally presented by the app.

How to Access

You can access the data under Settings > Data and storage usage > Storage usage.

Users can go to ‘Manage messages’ and delete specific options from chats as well. The feature was first noted by Android Police, earlier this week.

Storage management has been available to iOS users as early as January this year. iPhone users face storage problems often which makes this feature a necessity for them.

Where to Download

Users who can’t wait for the latest version can side load the latest v 2.17.340 version of the app. To do that, you can either download an APK  or enroll in the Android Beta Program for the app.

Do keep in mind that the beta version might have bugs and/or glitches. So use at your own risk.

WhatsApp hasn’t announced when the feature will be available on the Google Play Store. However, given its presence in beta, it shouldn’t take more than a few weeks at most.
