Xiaomi’s Redmi 5A Comes With an Updated Design and Same Great Value

Xiaomi has unveiled one of their cheapest smartphones yet, the Redmi 5A. The phone was announced a couple of months ago with 2 more pricey variants. This time around the company has started taking pre-orders for the phone.

Design and Display

Compared to its predecessor (the Redmi 4A) the Redmi 5A is almost the same. The 4A was relatively more “square” than the 5A but other than this minor difference, the design, the build and even the colors available are the same.

Budget smartphones usually don’t have a metal body. Xiaomi’s Redmi series is the exception though. There is no fingerprint sensor on the phone unfortunately.

It has a 5-inch IPS LCD display which has a resolution of 720p – just like the 4A.

Hardware, Software and Camera

Even the hardware is exactly the same as the 4A – A Snapdragon 425, 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage. Storage is expandable via a hybrid microSD/SIM card slot.

It is equipped with Xiaomi’s homemade MIUI 9 and underneath it runs Android Nougat (7.1).

The primary camera has a 13 MP shooter with autofocus and a LED flash. The front camera features a 5 MP sensor.

Battery, Price and Availability

It has a battery capacity of 3,000mAh – surprisingly, this is lower than the 3,180mAh battery of the 4A. The best thing about the Redmi 5A is its price. At just $91 (Around Rs. 9,200) it offers a lot for a budget smartphone.

Pre-orders have started in China today and its availability in Pakistan is still uncertain.

It offers a really good build quality and a good camera performance – the MIUI9 is well-optimized and it sits really well on this hardware. It may not give you the experience of an expensive flagship but if you have a tight budget, the 5A is definitely a good purchase.

    • The screen is not bad. I have used Redmi 4A (also with 720p) and the color reproduction and viewing angles are great in all conditions with just the exception of DIRECT sunlight.

  • There is no fingerprint sensor on the phone unfortunately.

Bhai phir sensors may kese agya fingerprint??? ??
