NAB Raids Karachi Development Authority & Arrests Its Director

This Thursday, Karachi Development Authority (KDA) office in the Civic Centre has been raided by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) regarding the inspection against the ex-director general (DG) of KDA, Nasir Abbas.

The Director, Syed Obaid Ahmed, has been arrested by the NAB team. Along with him, documentation and records relevant to the respective offences committed by the accused have been seized as well.

Apparently, Nasir Abbas – who is currently under custody – upon interrogation by NAB, yielded information which led the investigation team to arrest Syed Obaid Ahmed.

Obaid Ahmed, on first impression, has been accused for being involved with land mafia and will be presented before an accountability court for a physical remand.

Back in September, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested the director general, Nasir Abbas, for charges of hiding his government job and using false details to get a passport. These charges are severe and mean up to three years in prison as punishment.

He was being held by the FIA. Nasir Abbas was transferred and NAB is currently scrutinizing him and trying to find out about his corrupt activities, prohibited under the NAB Ordinance 1999, Section 9 (a).

According to reports from officials, Syed Nasir Abbas is a grade-20 officer and he was arrested because a case was registered against him. He was accused of holding a passport using false information – he claimed to be a businessman instead of disclosing his government job to get the passport.
