Met Office Forecasts Rains in Northern Areas of the Country

Rain in Punjab helped cleared out some of the smog that covered up most of the province especially Lahore for nearly two weeks which led the citizens to stay locked up in their homes. Punjab did not see the sun for around 15 days due to the toxic fog.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) in Islamabad foretold on Thursday about the chances of heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms within the next 24 hours in Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Rawalpindi and Gujranwala divisions, upper FATA, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

However, cold and dry weather will prevail in most parts of the country.

It is also predicted by the met office that within the next 24 hours snow will cover the hilly areas in a white blanket. The northern areas are to be affected by a shallow westerly wave for two days consecutive.

Murky and foggy mornings would prevail in the southern and central parts Punjab.

A senior official at the Pakistan Meteorological Department told the local media: “From now onwards, people living in Punjab will be able to breathe fresh and clean air.”

“Now there are no chances of smog in the country, as rain has washed away all dust particles suspended in the atmosphere which formed a thick cloud of toxic particles and the farmers in India are also done with burning their crops,” he further added.
