Ex-President MoC Housing Society Caught Trying to Embezzle Rs 530 Million

Former President of the Ministry of Commerce Cooperative Housing Society, Rana Ghulam Farid’s attempt to transfer Rs 530 million to another private bank was foiled by other members of the society.

Sources told that former President of the said society tried to transfer Rs 530 million to a private bank from a frozen account of the society. However, his move was foiled by the circle registrar’s office.

NAB has also collected records of plundering in Ministry of Commerce Cooperative Housing Society while the ringleader of the land mafia, Nawaz Khan, is being investigated.

According to the record from the circle registrar’s office, Ministry of Commerce Cooperative Housing Society has an account in a private bank in G-10 Markaz.

On October 13, 2017 Rana Ghulam Farid, along with his two accomplices Mazhar Hussain and Haji Riaz, tried to transfer over Rs 530 million via cheque number 1341211217 to another private bank but this information was delivered to the circle registrar’s office just in time.

The circle registrar’s office asked the bank administration not to follow orders of the ex-President regarding transfer of amount while NAB has been informed, in this regard.

Mazhar Hussain has remained executive member and Haji Riaz as acting General Secretary of the society. Registrar office has also informed NAB about the recent incident, sources told.

Action committee constituted by the affectees has submitted an application to NAB, which revealed that Rana Ghulam Farid, obtained guarantees from Peshawar High Court as property dealer while he got guarantee from Sindh High Court showing himself as a vegetable seller. Both the guarantees were canceled.

The accused lied before both the courts. Later, he got bail before arrest from Rawalpindi High Court but Accountability Court, on October 25 2017, canceled his guarantee and ordered the arrest of the accused.

The accused faces allegations of involvement in Rs 9 billion of corruption. During the last term of the society’s office-bearers, he (Rana Ghulam Farid) tried to transfer Rs 530 million from society’s account to another account.

Sources said that Nawaz Khan, who is a member of the land mafia, was supporting the accused. Khan also supported his real sister during elections of the society, while on the other hand there was unrest among the society members regarding Nawaz Khan’s intervention in society’s affairs.
