Xiaomi’s long-awaited Mi A1 successor is here. Meet the Xiaomi Mi 6X (A2 in international markets) which comes with upgraded internals, better cameras and AI.
The design looks exactly the same as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, especially the iPhone-esque vertically oriented dual cameras on the back.
Mi 6X’s display is a large 6” IPS panel with 1080p FHD+ resolution with a fingerprint sensor on the back. It also comes with Face Unlock to complete the package.
Under the hood, you get Qualcomm’s prime mid-range SoC, the Snapdragon 660, with its two clusters of quad-core Kryo 260 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz and 2.2 GHz. There’s either 4 or 6 GB RAM, with 64/128 GB storage. Storage is expandable via a hybrid microSD/SIM card slot.
The phone is running Android 8.1 Oreo and comes with Xiao Ai, Xiaomi’s in-house AI based virtual assistant.
The AI is capable of translating menus and signboards you see using your phone’s camera. If you’re watching a video, the AI will let you purchase whatever you’re watching in the video easily. Another feature is that it can calculate calories in a food item if you point the camera at it. Useful for weight watchers.
Connectivity options include USB-C, IR sensor, and Bluetooth LE, however, a major omission is the 3.5mm headphone jack, which is still commonplace in midrange phones.
At the back sits a dual-camera setup featuring Sony lenses in each sensor. There’s a primary 12 MP f/1.8 sensor, followed by a 20MP f/2.2 telephoto lens. This allows for bokeh effect as well as up to 2X lossless zoom.
The front also comes with a 20 MP sensor with a LED Flash. The camera comes with AI focused features including automatic and assisted adjustments, as well as 16 portrait mode options.
Here’s a camera comparison with iPhone X and Oppo R15:
The battery capacity of the 6X is kept at 3010 mAh, with Quick Charge 3.0, charging up to 50% in 30 minutes.
