Having recently played his last international cricket match while playing for the ICC World XI, Shahid Afridi has been one of the most loved and cherished cricketers in the whole world. Not just Pakistanis, foreigners also love Boom Boom Afridi.
One mystery, however, is his age and neither the fans nor the teammates and not even cricketers from other countries have been able to solve it.
Shahid Afridi and Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh may be seen aggressively challenging each other on the field, however, they are quite friendly off the pitch.
Coming back to Afridi’s age, his fellow cricketers Harbhajan Singh and former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson take a wild guess at Afridi’s age in Harbhajan’s YouTube show Bhajji Blast.
While discussing Harbhajan’s first hat-trick, Watson asked his age at that time, answering which Harbhajan said 17. Watson trolled him by asking his real age at that time, and he replied 20 which sparked an age debate which ultimately had to target Afridi, didn’t it?
When asked about the time spent with Afridi, Watson trolled about his age saying, “He has been 36 for about seven years. That’s a great effort.”
While talking about the Indian veteran cricketer, Yuvraj Singh, the two cricketers were all laughs once again. Watson recollected his moments with the left-handed batsman as Harbhajan jokingly said that He [Yuvraj] is same as Afridi.
Harbhajan pointed out that he played with Yuvraj at the under 16 and under 19 level but he had to leave the teams because of his age, however, Yuvraj continued to play for the teams even after he was gone.
It’s no wonder that players make fun of Afridi’s age. Just like Sachin Tendulkar, he had a long career spanning ovr two decades and most players grew up watching him play cricket.
