FIA Arrests Three Nigerians for Online Fraud

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested three Nigerian nationals over accusations of defrauding people online. The foreigners allegedly used social media accounts to commit fraud online.

The FIA conducted a raid and recovered computers and other electronic equipment from the arrested individuals.

According to reports, the individuals used Facebook and emails to carry out fraudulent activities. They created fake Facebook profiles, posing as Generals from the United States’ Army who were posted in Kabul, for nefarious purposes.

FIA Cybercrime Wing’s Deputy Director Syed Shahid Hassan said that the accused used to contact potential victims online and told them that they had piles of cash in dollars. The Nigerians used to tell their victims that they would send them gifts as a token of friendship.

Reportedly, people who got conned by them ended up sending their mobile phone numbers in the hopes of receiving these “gifts”.  Several victims received the calls from people posing as officials from the US embassy or Pakistani customs officers.
