Asad Umer Hints at Replacing Chairman FBR, SECP

Asad Umer, the front-runner for Finance Ministership in the PTI-led government, has hinted at replacing major officials from the FBR and SECP.

When asked about Chairman NAB and Governor SBP, Mr. Umer said that the chief of central bank and NAB are hired for a specific tenure, hence Tariq Bajwa or Justice Javed Iqbal won’t be replaced immediately.

Imran Khan, the PM-Elect, has pointed out the flaws in FBR’s system on multiple occasions. It was just yesterday that he emphasized on increasing the tax-net by not only bringing reforms but also by protecting the tax money through careful spending.

Not to mention, PTI used to heavily criticize the tax regulators. Considering the background and public plans from PTI leadership, this statement from Asad Umer isn’t surprising, however, it is yet to be seen how quickly these changes will be implemented.

Mr. Umer didn’t say anything on possible names for the Chairman of FBR and SECP.
