Red Dead Redemption 2 Outsells Every Movie & Game at Launch in 2018

Rockstar Games has achieved major milestones after launching the much-awaited Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR 2) video game on Friday, October 26.

Red Redemption 2 had the highest grossing opening weekend of any entertainment title ever, with the studio reporting that it’s also the “biggest entertainment launch of 2018”.

Breaking Records

This means that the game has surpassed all books, movies, and even music in terms of sales and popularity. In its opening weekend, RDR 2 managed to break a number of records, including:

  • More than $725 million worth of copies sold in the first three days of launch.
  • The “most pre-ordered game” on the PlayStation Network.
  • The “biggest day one full game sales” on the PlayStation Network.

The game is getting a multiplayer game mode too in November, just like GTA V, according to Rockstar Games.

This is not the first time the studio has managed impressive numbers. Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 5 is still the highest-grossing entertainment launch of all time, which made more money than some of the biggest movie titles such as Titanic and Avatar.

GTA V’s Success

It made $1 billion in its first three days – compared to the new cowboy title’s $725 million earnings, making RDR 2 the second highest-grossing entertainment title ever.

The company is best known for its Grand Theft Auto series and raised some serious hype in the gaming industry after unveiling the sequel to the classic Red Dead Redemption.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is set in the Wild West in 1899, where you play as Arthur Morgan, an outlaw and member of the Van Der Linde gang. It serves as a prequel to the original Red Dead Redemption revealing interesting details about John Marston, the original game’s protagonist, and his time in the same gang.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently available on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for $60 (base version).
