PIA Leaves 40 Passengers Stranded at Medina Airport

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is once again making headlines and again for the wrong reasons.

An Islamabad-bound flight has left 40 passengers stranded at the Medina airport. The flight PK-714 took off from Medina leaving 40 people, including women, behind and that too without any warning.

The passengers castigated the PIA officials over the disregard to the difficulties they were facing. According to the passengers, the airline did not even arrange a hotel for the stranded passengers to stay till the next flight comes to bring them home.

The reported reason for leaving those passengers behind was that the plane was small and could not accommodate all passengers.

It needs to be noted here that Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed the PIA Chairman on January 1 to devise a comprehensive business plan to overcome the losses incurred by the company.

In the meeting, the PM told the chairman that the government wants to make PIA a profit-generating and self-sufficient airline.

Officials of the national flag carrier told the PM that PIA was facing a total loss amounting Rs.414.3 billion and a deficit worth 500 million rupees on seven international routes along with the loss on domestic routes.

Just recently, the Finance Minister termed PIA as a black hole that was consuming all the funds allocated to it.
