Former Pakistani speed-star Shoaib Akhtar has claimed that he was offered to work as the head coach and chief selector for the Under-19 cricket team.
Shoaib Akhtar, who has served as an ambassador to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and advisor to ex-chairman Najam Sethi, made this claim during popular sports talk show ‘Game On Hai’ on PTV Sports.
“Wasim Bhai has offered me to serve as a head coach and chief selector of Under19 cricket team, to which I agreed only if I get the full powers,” Akhtar said during the show.
Shoaib also said that he had recommended the names of 2-3 former players he played with for U-19 roles.
It is, however, unclear that by Wasim Bhai, if he meant Wasim Akram, a member of PCB’s cricket committee or Waseem Khan, the newly-appointed Managing Director of the board.
Nonetheless, his claim has caused a stir on social media and people are already tweeting about how he could fit into this role.
It is worth mentioning here that the former star cricketer is also associated with PSL franchise Lahore Qalandars as a Mentor. He is also the part of Qalandars’ selection team which holds talent hunt camps across the country.
Shoaib is the fastest bowler Pakistan has ever produced. The 43-year-old paceman still holds the world record for bowling the fastest ball in any form of cricket – 161.3 km/hour.
