Emirates is Reducing Baggage Limits for its Cheapest Economy Tickets

Emirates Airline is going to reduce the baggage allowance for its economy class from February 4.

The Dubai-based carrier made the announcement on its website. It stated that the baggage allowance for some Economy Class tickets will be cut by five kilograms.

The world’s largest international carrier has separated the Economy fares into four ticket types, i.e., Saver, Special, Flex, and Flex Plus. The airline’s new baggage policy has reduced the baggage allowance for Special and Saver ticket holders and they will be allowed baggage of 15kg and 25kg respectively.

Previously, said tickets were allowed 20kg and 30kg of baggage.

Baggage allowance for Flex and Flex Plus tickets has not changed. It remains at 30kg and 35kg respectively.

Also, the baggage policy for Business and First Class also remain the same. The new weight allowances are applicable to all Emirates routes, except for travel from Africa and travel to and from destinations in the Americas.

“After a careful review of customer feedback and their travel preferences, Emirates can confirm that we will be updating our standard free baggage allowance for Economy Class travel, effective for bookings made on or after 4th February 2019,” states the airline.

This adjustment enables Emirates to offer our customers more flexibility to select the fare and associated benefits that best meet their travel needs.

It needs to be noted here that the tickets issued prior to February 4, for travel on or after the said date, will have the former baggage allowance policy.
