Pakistan Railways has decided to bring back the steam-powered vintage trains.
Minister for Railways, Sheikh Rasheed, met with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Minister for Tourism Atif Khan. Both dignitaries conferred on the prospect of resuming the steam-engine trains.
As per the details, the steam engines will be attached with the safari/tourist trains. The first steam-powered tourist train is expected to run from Peshawar to Attock Khurd.
This project is an attempt to promote tourism while enabling the public to experience vintage locomotives.
The ministers also agreed on reviving the Takht-I-Bhai railway track. Both ministers will also coordinate on extending train access to the historic sites of Gandhara.
The Railways Minister announced that the Peshawar-Attock Khurd tourist train project will kickstart in February.
He said that tourist trains will be launched in collaboration with the private sector and the KP government.
The federal minister also divulged that Pak Railways currently has four steam engines. These engines will be used in the safari trains.
It needs to be mentioned here that Railways Minister had announced to run three safari trains last month.
