Gilgit-Baltistan Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sanaullah Abbasi said that a special tourism force will be formed in the region to ensure the safety of national and foreign tourists.
He also told that the GB government will deploy 700 personnel for the protection of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor route. The special tourism force called, “Tourism Police Division” will be set up on the model of Malaysia and Thailand.
This force will comprise 600 staff inclusive of one IGP, one Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), 75 sub-inspectors, 105 head constables, 315 male constables, 70 female constables, 70 official staff.

IGP Abbasi further divulged that only candidates with English speaking skills will be appointed to ensure better communication with foreign tourists.
The special tourism force’s office will be in Gilgit, while sub-offices will be established in Nagar, Hunza, Skardu, Ghizer, Diamer, and Ghanche districts.
The IGP further added that while there is no security threat to tourists in GB, these steps are meant to provide better facilities to tourists and promote the tourism industry.
