It seems that most of the Chinese vendors are out on a race to get as many budget smartphones out as possible.
This time we have Huawei Y5 2019, which is the latest addition in Huawei’s Y series and a successor of the Y5 2018. It features a unique faux leather rear and all the decent specs you could expect from a budget Chinese phone.
Design and Display
The main highlight of the Y5’s design is the faux leather rear panel which not only makes the phone look more attractive but is also fingerprint/smudge free and wear resistant.
The 5.7 inch IPS LCD screen is smaller than the usual phones in this category, but you have the usual HD+ resolution you get with phones in a similar price range. The TUV Rheinland certified display keeps the harmful blue light under control.
Internals and Storage
Powering the smartphone is a quad-core processor with a clock speed of 2.0GHz. Along with that, you get two different storage options of 16GB and 32GB. Both the variants have 2GB of RAM.
There’s no fingerprint sensor on the phone, which is unusual especially for a phone coming out in 2019. Though the face recognition is dependable enough for the job as it is capable of recognizing 1024 different facial expressions even in low light.
Camera
The front facing 5MP shooter has a self-toning flash enabled along with a Smart Beauty feature available for taking better selfies. The back of the phone, meanwhile, sports a 13MP primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture.
Battery and Pricing
While we don’t have anything on the price of the phone yet, Huawei Y5 2019 has a 3020mAh battery under the back panel. Given the modest specifications of the phone, the battery should not have a problem keeping the phone up and running for long periods of time.
