PMD Warns of Summer’s First Heatwave in Karachi

Karachi’s temperature has reached 40 degree Celsius and the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned the residents of a heatwave, which is likely to persist till 3rd May. The temperature is likely to touch 42 degree Celsius on Wednesday.

All the residents and authorities have been advised to practice care amid rising temperatures. Heatstroke is prevalent in soaring temperatures and the citizens should be wary of the hot weather’s implications.

Talking about the extreme heat in May and June, Director Met Office, Sardar Sarfaraz said that heatwaves can be expected in the coming two months in Karachi.

In comparison to 2015, the city will experience only mild humidity in the atmosphere but citizens are advised to exercise extreme caution.

He further said that the weather department will issue alerts for heatwaves three days in advance for residents to exercise precautionary measures.

As per the directions from CM Sindh, 18 mobile teams for first-aid, 24 ambulances, 185 cold water points and 112 heatwave centers will assist the citizens in case of emergency.
