Mohmand Dam’s construction will start today with Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar performing the groundbreaking ceremony at the dam’s location in Mohmand district.
The dam is to be constructed on the Swat River by 2024 and is expected to cost over Rs. 183 billion. The dam will have a storage capacity of 1.2 million acre-feet of water with the capacity to generate 800MW and will be able to recover over 17,000 acre of land that is currently barren.
The dam will help resolve the issue of water shortage in Mohmand district as well as prevent future flooding in the districts of Peshawar, Charsadda, and Nowshera.
PM Imran Khan will also take this opportunity to tour Khyber District’s Tirah Valley.
